2023 AGM - Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand



We are pleased to invite you to attend the 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to the ordinary business of the AGM, the Board are also seeking your support in relation to a separate Member Vote being conducted in relation to proposed amendments to CA ANZ’s By-Laws and the NZICA Rules.


CA ANZ will provide opportunities during the voting period for members to learn more about the proposed changes to the By-Laws and NZICA Rules and there will also be an opportunity for members to ask questions at the AGM.

The AGM webcast platform will be accessible 15 minutes before the meeting commences. You will be able to join the webcast at any time until the Chair brings the meeting to a close.


Our CEO, Ainslie van Onselen, President, Murray Harrington FCA and Board Chair, John Palermo FCA will provide an update on CA ANZ’s performance and key initiatives for the 2023 financial year and discuss planned initiatives for the FY24.


There are two items of business for this year’s AGM:

  1. Financial and Statutory Reports
    The annual report of the Board, the general purpose financial report for the financial year ended 30 June 2023 and the report of the Auditor will be received and considered by members.
  2. Member Vote – Proposed Changes to By-Laws and NZICA Rules
    A separate member vote (Member Vote) is being conducted on behalf of CA ANZ by electionz.com, an independent election management company, to seek member approval for proposed amendments to CA ANZ’s By-Laws and NZICA Rules to give effect to the recommendations of the recently completed Professional Conduct Framework Review, as well as a number of other proposed changes.


Whilst the resolutions relating to the Member Vote do not form part of the formal business of the AGM, Members will be able to ask questions regarding the proposed changes during the AGM.

Murray Harrington FCA, President
Murray holds a number of directorships and governance roles in infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, healthcare and the public sector. For many years Murray was a Partner in PwC and then the CEO of NomosOne, an Australasian software company, with customers in many countries.

John Palermo FCA, Board Chair
John has 25 years’ experience in public practice, with expertise in corporate transaction execution, strategic business management and business structuring. He was previously Chair of the CA ANZ Public Practice Advisory Committee and the CA ANZ Western Australia Regional Council. John is a non-executive Director of Alterra Ltd, a Director and Deputy Chair of Royal Perth Hospital Medical Research Foundation and Council member for Wesley College.

Ainslie van Onselen, Chief Executive Officer
Ainslie has been the Chief Executive Officer of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand since May 2020. For more than 20 years she enjoyed a parallel career as a law partner and non-executive director, before progressing into senior C-suite executive roles including Managing Director and CEO of RAMS Home Loans and running Australia’s second largest bank, Westpac’s $200 billion retail deposits and credit card portfolio.

The AGM will be held online only. As the meeting will be conducted as a virtual meeting, members will not be able to physically attend the AGM.


Members will be able to view the webcast, ask questions and make comments online using the Q&A function.


Once registered for the event you will receive a link, approximately one day prior to the AGM, together with instructions about how to participate in the meeting.
