Building Knowledge: Tikanga Maori for Business

Thursday 12 December 2019
Back by popular demand, we are bringing you round two of the Tikanga Maori for Business Professionals workshop.

If you are a business professional working with, for, or on behalf of Māori – this introductory workshop is for you! This workshop will give you confidence and greater understanding of how to act and build relationships with Māori. This workshop is open to all – no prior knowledge or level of fluency is required.

The Māori economy and asset base has grown significantly, with MBIE estimating Māori enterprise worth nearly $40 billion and growing faster than the economy as a whole; it’s hard to think of any business professional not touched.

This workshop is a perfect opportunity to learn and clarify kawa – the guiding principles, policies and procedures – and tikanga, behaviour when doing business. It is designed give you the confidence and knowledge on how to engage and conduct yourself when meeting or working with Māori.

You will have the chance to learn the importance of te reo Māori, pronunciation and some key phrases when working in a Māori business environment. You will also experience pōwhiri/welcome ceremony, and be guided throughout the process.
